Madrid

31 July 07.

This is Not Fiction.

Here are some nice things about Madrid:

  1. The sun shining. Well, the sun shines in Dublin too, but in Madrid there is no thick layer of grey cloud in the way. This means it can actually be seen shining with the naked eye, rather than just alluded to in science textbooks and travel catalogues.
  2. It’s nice being unable to put people into boxes as easily as you can at home. Everyone is just people (or Spanish) rather than students and scumbags and skangers and hipsters and financial workers.
  3. Small beers. They give you a half-pint, or a 250ml glass, or something similar everywhere you go. You can have four or five and not feel affected the next morning. It makes our pints seem kind of grossly excessive. I’d start ordering halves if I thought I could get away with it without being ostracised by society.
  4. Smooth, tanned shoulders.

  2. Nah, last week. I’m a bit slow.

  3. And no photo of your smooth, tanned shoulders? I didn’t know you were that into having smooth shoulders.

  4. You know, I considered the possibility that someone might make that joke… then dismissed that possibility as beneath every single reader of this site.
