Number of Books on the Shelf

I'm not sure. A rough estimate in the sitting room pointed to somewhere around 1000 on the shelves there. There's a lot more around the house though. I'd say roughly between 1500 and 2000. Owned by the house. I've no idea how many of these I own. People just add them to the pile.

Last book purchased

Picked up two old Martin Amis paperbacks during the week in my local second hand bookshop. The Rachel Papers, and Other People. Read The Rachel Papers already, so I won't stick it in last five read, 'cos that would just be a waste of typing. Unlike this.

Book Reading Right Now

Other People, by Martin Amis.

  1. I’ve never read anything by Paul Theroux. Should I? And how’d you like Anil’s Ghost? I thought it was great. Everything Ondaatje’s written is great.

  2. Mosquito Coast is great. I’d seen the movie when I was much, much younger, it had become one of those early films lodged in my psyche. It was nice to have the story fleshed out. Good writer. Kowloon Tong isn’t as nice, but set in Hong Kong just before the handover. Which is interesting.

Anil’s Ghost was amazing. I like novels that educate me. History is my greatest weakness.
